This Time, Gold Wasn’t Pulled by Just One Horse

Gold rose 13% in August.

That made it the third-strongest monthly gain of the past 25 years.

But I don’t think the number itself is the most interesting part.

Strong moves in gold are often explained by one dominant story — geopolitics, rates, the dollar, or central-bank buying.

August was different.

Alongside geopolitical tension, we also saw stronger ETF buying, shifting futures positioning, and notable activity in call options.

Several different parts of the market suddenly started moving in the same direction.

That makes the August move more interesting than a typical short-term rally.

ETFs are bringing investment capital back into gold. Futures show how aggressively speculative positioning is changing. Call options show growing willingness to bet on further upside.

After such a strong month, consolidation, profit-taking, or simply higher volatility could follow.

But August showed one important thing:

Demand for gold exposure appeared across several parts of the market at the same time.

This time, the wagon wasn’t being pulled by just one horse.
