Methodology & data notes
These are daily nominal constant-maturity par yields inferred from Treasury market quotations, not yields from an individual auction or guaranteed returns on a specific bond. They are not adjusted for inflation. The table shows the mean of available daily readings in each of the latest 12 calendar months; the latest month may be partial and updates when new official rates are saved. Monthly changes are in percentage points; the snapshot’s 1-month comparison uses approximately 21 trading sessions. The 10-year maturity is selected by default; the cards switch between maturities. The 1-year view shows monthly-average bars; 5 years and All show annual averages. All includes verified history since 2010. The current calendar year is partial. Treasury may revise its data; weekends and U.S. holidays normally have no new reading. A nominal yield alone does not predict gold prices. For inflation-adjusted TIPS rates, use the Real Yields Tracker.
How to Read U.S. Treasury Yields
U.S. Treasury yields show how interest rates differ across bond maturities. This tracker follows official daily rates for 2, 3, 5, 10 and 30 years, with historical charts back to 2010. Compare shorter and longer maturities to see whether a change is concentrated in one part of the yield curve or affecting the broader bond market.
These figures are nominal Treasury yields. They are daily yield curve readings, rather than live bond prices or the result of a particular auction.
Why Do Treasury Yields Matter for Gold?
Gold does not pay interest. When Treasury yields rise, interest-bearing assets may become more attractive by comparison. But a higher nominal yield does not tell the whole story: inflation expectations, the U.S. dollar and demand for physical gold also influence the market.
For an inflation-adjusted view, compare these rates with our U.S. Real Yields Tracker. You can then follow how gold is trading on the Gold Price Chart. The relationship can change over time, so yields are best used as context rather than a price prediction.
What Do Treasury Auctions Add?
Yield curve data show rates across fixed maturities. Auction results answer a different question: how investors bid when the Treasury sells new securities. Our Treasury Auction Demand Tracker shows individual auction results, including bid-to-cover ratios and high yields.
Together, these tools help you follow interest rates, inflation-adjusted returns and demand for U.S. government debt.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are U.S. Treasury yields?
U.S. Treasury yields represent the interest rates investors receive on U.S. government debt across different maturities. They can change as market expectations for inflation, interest rates and economic conditions shift.
What is the difference between 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields?
The 2-year yield is generally more sensitive to expectations for Federal Reserve policy, while the 10-year yield also reflects longer-term expectations for inflation, economic growth and interest rates.
What does the Treasury yield curve show?
The Treasury yield curve compares yields across different maturities. Its shape can show whether short-term rates are above or below longer-term rates and how interest-rate expectations differ across the market.
Are Treasury yields the same as real yields?
No. Treasury yields are nominal rates and do not directly adjust for inflation. Real yields provide an inflation-adjusted measure, commonly based on Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities.
Do higher Treasury yields always push gold prices lower?
No. Higher yields can increase the relative appeal of interest-bearing assets, but gold is also influenced by real yields, inflation expectations, the U.S. dollar, investment demand and physical market conditions.
