How to read this tracker

Holdings date is the date to which the quantity of metal relates. The SEC filing date and the last source-check time are different dates.

Totals combine only the three selected funds with holdings available for exactly the same date. Fund cards show each fund’s latest verified report, so a card may be newer than the total. Gold and silver are never added together.

Changes measure the physical metal held between reported dates. They can reflect creations, redemptions, fund expenses and other transactions. They are not dollar investor flows or a forecast of metal prices. PSLV is a closed-end trust with a different issuance and redemption structure.

Units: gold in metric tonnes; silver in millions of troy ounces, with tonnes in the table. One troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams. Chart axes may start above zero; use the numbers and report table to assess the size of a change.

Sources: public SEC EDGAR filings. The tracker extracts physical quantities and retains the last verified figures if a new report cannot be validated. Report revisions may change historical values. Coverage is selected U.S.-listed funds and trusts, not global ETF holdings.

What Do Gold and Silver ETF Holdings Show?

Gold and silver ETF holdings show the quantity of physical metal held by selected exchange-traded funds and trusts. Tracking these holdings helps investors compare individual funds and understand how their bullion inventories change over time.

Our Gold & Silver ETF Holdings Tracker follows GLD, IAU and GLDM for gold, alongside SLV, PSLV and SIVR for silver. It brings reported physical holdings, historical changes and original SEC filings together in one place.

Gold holdings are displayed in metric tonnes, while silver holdings are shown in millions of troy ounces. The selected fund’s detail also provides the quantity in troy ounces.

How to Read Changes in ETF Holdings

An increase in reported holdings means a fund held more physical metal at the later reporting date. A decrease means its reported bullion holdings were lower.

These changes can reflect share creations, redemptions, sales of metal to cover expenses and other fund transactions. A change in physical holdings is not the same as a dollar inflow or outflow. Understanding this distinction helps investors interpret ETF flows correctly. Changes in the value of a fund’s assets can also result from movements in gold and silver prices.

The tracker compares each fund with its previous reported date and, where matching data are available, the same date one year earlier. Combined holdings are calculated only when all three selected funds have data for the same date.

ETF holdings provide one part of the market picture. They can be considered alongside gold and silver COT positioning and U.S. real yields when assessing the broader investment backdrop.

Official SEC Data and Reporting Dates

This tracker uses public financial reports filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Each historical observation includes a link to its source, allowing visitors to check the reported figures.

The tracker automatically checks for new filings each day. However, holdings are updated when suitable reports become available, generally through quarterly or annual disclosures. Daily source checks do not provide daily holdings or live ETF flows.

The holdings date identifies when the reported quantity applied. The SEC filing date shows when the report was published, while “Last checked” records the latest source verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do gold and silver ETF holdings show?

Gold and silver ETF holdings show the quantity of physical metal held by a fund or trust at a specific reporting date. Tracking these quantities helps investors compare funds and understand changes in their bullion holdings over time.

Which gold and silver funds does this tracker cover?

The tracker covers GLD, IAU and GLDM for gold, alongside SLV, PSLV and SIVR for silver. PSLV is a closed-end investment trust. The combined totals cover these selected products, not global ETF holdings.

Where do the data come from, and how often are they updated?

The data come from public SEC EDGAR filings. The tracker checks for new filings daily, but holdings are updated only when suitable reports become available, generally quarterly or annually. Each observation includes its reporting date and a link to the source.

Does this tracker show daily ETF inflows and outflows?

No. It shows reported physical holdings and changes between reporting dates. These changes can reflect share creations, redemptions, fund expenses and other transactions. They are not a measure of daily investor cash flows.

Do rising ETF holdings mean gold or silver prices will rise?

Not necessarily. Rising holdings mean a tracked fund held more physical metal at the later reporting date. They do not independently predict prices, which also respond to interest rates, currencies, physical demand and other market conditions.
