Silver’s Next Rally Must Survive a Retest

Silver has fallen toward $56, leaving several reference levels above the market. FXEmpire’s XAG/USD quote stood near $55.81 at 11:51 a.m. EDT on October 14. The next recovery will face a series of tests before it repairs the technical damage.

The selling intensified after U.S. inflation data pushed investors to reassess the Fed’s next move. Reuters reported that the dollar and 10-year Treasury yields rose after the release, while expectations for an October rate increase strengthened.

The levels on the chart need some distinction. FXEmpire’s technical snapshot lists $58.34 as classic daily S1 support and $59.54 as the daily pivot, calculated from the October 13 session. Silver has moved below both. These are short-term, calculated reference points; their values change with each session.

The $56.56 and $54.78 levels come from previous swing lows identified in James Hyerczyk’s October 8 analysis. His chart also placed the long-term 50% retracement at approximately $60.84. Those historical references serve a different purpose from daily pivots.

Breaking support can activate sell stops. Losses on leveraged positions can also create margin pressure, potentially forcing additional position reductions. These mechanisms can amplify a decline, although the price chart alone cannot establish how much of today’s selling came from forced liquidation.

For us, the first test is whether buyers can establish a base around $55–56. Calling it a demand area does not establish that buyers will defend it.

A recovery through $56.56, followed by $58.34 and the current $59.54 pivot, would begin rebuilding the short-term picture. The $60–60.84 region would then present a broader hurdle.

Holding a recovered level on a subsequent pullback would offer stronger evidence than briefly trading above it. That is where former support becoming resistance becomes relevant.

A softer dollar and easing yield pressure would provide a more supportive backdrop. If buyers fail around $55, the previously identified $54.78 swing low remains a nearby downside reference—not a guaranteed floor.
