AI Is Becoming an Electricity Story

Anthropic has reportedly signed a $35 billion cloud deal tied to a single AI data center project in Texas.

The planned capacity is around 350 MW.

That number alone gives you a sense of where AI infrastructure is heading.

We usually think about AI in terms of chips, models, and software. But behind the screen sits an increasingly massive physical infrastructure.

Data centers require enormous amounts of electricity. They need transformers, substations, cooling systems, backup power, server infrastructure, and often major upgrades to the surrounding grid.

And this is where silver enters the picture.

Silver isn’t the main metal used in data centers, but it is used in electrical contacts, power electronics, and high-performance electrical systems. More importantly, the AI infrastructure boom is happening at the same time that power grids are already being expanded to support electrification, renewables, and rising electricity demand.

That combination is interesting.

A single 350 MW project represents electricity consumption on the scale of a small city. And we’re talking about just one data center.

If hyperscale AI facilities continue to be built at this pace, the investment required outside the servers themselves could become just as important as what sits inside them.

More substations. More transmission infrastructure. More electrical equipment. More high-performance components.

It adds another structural source of industrial demand for a metal that is already benefiting from solar, electronics, electrification, and grid investment.

AI is digital. The infrastructure behind it is very physical.
